Two confirmed dead following plane crash off coast of northern Vancouver Island

Nootka Sound RCMP are investigating a plane crash that occurred in the Tahsis Inlet near Misona Point in northern Vancouver Island.

On Tuesday, June 20th, at around 2 p.m., RCMP were notified of the crash in the remote inlet which has a population of roughly 300 to 500.

Police say initial reports indicated that the plane carried four individuals who were en route from Masset flying to Tofino.

The Coast Guard and Joint Rescue Coordination Centre responded to the scene alongside Nootka Sound RCMP and recovered two of the passengers alive and two who had died as a result of the crash. 

The victims have not been identified as of this publication.

According to police, the Transportation Safety Board and the BC Coroners Service will be working alongside them in collaboration to determine the cause of the plane crash and the cause of death for the two victims. 

The Transportation Safety Board say the plane was a Quest Kodiak 100 aircraft.
