Firefighters were called Wednesday afternoon when a vehicle burst into flames in Saanich near the intersection of Blanshard Street and Saanich Road.

Crews responded to the incident at approximately 11:45 a.m. The vehicle’s occupant had escaped the fire prior to their arrival.

A single-engine team from Saanich Fire arrived to find flames coming from the engine compartment of the vehicle.

Assistant Deputy Chief Mike Kaye says firefighters were able to contain the blaze with an engine hose and flame retardant foam.

No one was injured in the incident. Crews were able to depart from the scene 30 minutes later, while the car was removed.

Saanich Fire will not be investigating the incident further as foul play is not suspected. Kaye says the matter will be handled between ICBC and the owner.
