Victoria woman searching for nurse who helped her after serious fall at grocery store

When 63-year-old Victoria Nygaard suffered a nasty fall in the vegetable aisle of a Saanich grocery store, most people chose to continue about their business as usual.

Everyone except for one kind nurse who stopped to help.

“Stay down, I’m a nurse. I can help you. Are you hurt?” she asked Nygaard after she saw her slip on some water and fall to the ground.

For the next few minutes, this nurse stayed with Nygaard, asked about her injuries, and checked her head to make sure she wasn’t bleeding, before a store manager arrived to help.

The incident occurred at around 12 p.m. on Saturday May 11th at the Save-On-Foods grocery store in Saanich Plaza on Blanshard St.

Since her fall, Nygaard has been to the doctor several times for a painful hip injury, had multiple x-rays and CAT Scans, and been out of work for 3 weeks due to a concussion.

Her doctors say she cannot return to work for at least another week, as her concussion has been making it difficult for her to see and think straight.

Complications

The Assistant Manager at the grocery store initially told Nygaard that the store has filed an incident report and normally offers $200 to compensate for lost wages in accidents like these.

However, according to Nygaard, the store is now claiming that there were no reliable witnesses that can tell them what happened.

She is now searching for the nurse for two reasons.

“I want to thank her from the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of my family as well, since they’ve been so worried,” Nygaard told Victoria Buzz.

“I also want to know if she would be willing to be a witness and tell the store what really happened.”

Nygaard described the nurse as a woman in her mid-30s with brown hair. She was also accompanied by a young child.

Due to the painful nature of her injuries, however, she cannot recall any more details about what the Good Samaritan looks like.

So she turned to us to help her find the nurse through the power of social media. Think we can do it?
