Ferry passengers on the Queen of Oak Bay were asked to disembark and two sailings were cancelled Monday morning after reports of a medical emergency onboard the vessel.
That emergency was later revealed to be the death of a male passenger. The body was discovered by ferry staff at around 8 a.m. when the boat arrived in Nanaimo.
The death is not considered criminal in nature and the BC Coroners Service has been notified. As criminality is not suspected, no further information will be released.
Nanaimo RCMP are investigating the cause of death, but as of now it’s not being deemed suspicious.
