Boat fire in Nanaimo last night leads to evacuation efforts

Share

Last night at about 9:30 PM Nanaimo Fire Rescue crews arrived at Stones Marina (according to CTV News) to find a 42-foot pleasure craft engulfed in over 20 foot high flames.

Authorities were concerned that the fire could spread to the other properties on Stewart Ave, including nearby Millers Pub, so they gave the order to evacuate the area.

CHEK News reports indicate that some pub-goers were reluctant to leave, as they were in the midst of watching a mixed martial arts event on television. Nanaimo RCMP had to be contacted to aid the evacuation efforts.

Fire crews were able to put out the flames soon after without too much trouble.

So far, foul play is not suspected as a cause of the fire, but a full investigation will begin on Monday.
