Travel magazine ranks Vancouver Island as best island in North America

To beach, or not to beach—it’s hardly a question.

Island living adds a certain romance to life, and Vancouver Island’s distinct brand of it is being lauded as some of the best in the world.

Vancouver Island is making waves recently after being ranked as the best island in North America by travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller, the UK’s version of the popular sister website Condé Nast Traveler.

Beating out some of the world’s most well-known isles and archipelagos, Vancouver Island reigned supreme, with some heavy hitters from the USA and Mexico coming in behind it on the list.

Condé Nast Traveller placed it number one, above famous destinations like Kauai and Maui in Hawaii, Isla Holbox in Mexico and Key West, Florida.

The list is based on scores given by the magazine’s readers, which are averaged into an overall point score for each destination.

Vancouver Island’s score of 97.14 meant it also ranked higher than some of the world’s most beautiful and storied islands, including the Maldives, Bermuda, St. Barts, Easter Island and the Galapagos.

It’s high praise from the magazine’s readers, who seem to love everything about the island on BC’s west coast.

Everyone is in need of a little vitamin ‘sea’ from time to time—Vancouver Islanders are lucky to have that luxury year-round.
