Here’s how you can smash your pumpkin for a good cause at this Langford event

With Halloween just around the corner, the age-old question after the holiday every year is “now what to do with the pumpkin?”

Instead of letting it rot this year, the Westshore Town Centre is offering a fun way to get rid of it while supporting a good cause!

At the annual Charity Pumpkin Smash, attendees can bring a cash donation and watch their pumpkins get smashed in spectacular fashion, with Langford Fire and Rescue dropping the retired gourds from a 100-foot fire engine ladder.

The event will take place on Sunday, November 1st from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Cineplex parking lot at Westshore Town Centre.

Donations are encouraged, with funds at this year’s pumpkin smash going to support Flourish! School Food Society.

Flourish! is a local charity dedicated to helping students across southern Vancouver Island access healthy meals and snacks at school.

Alongside its food programs, Flourish! also supports hands-on learning about growing, preparing and sharing food, helping students build positive, lasting relationships with what they eat.

“Watching pumpkins drop from a 100-foot ladder is quite a spectacle, but what makes this event special is the generosity behind it,” said Laura Savage, General Manager of Westshore Town Centre.

“We’re proud to host a community tradition that turns a little post-Halloween fun into support for school food programs.”

Thanks to volunteers from the Westshore Town Centre Tim Hortons, there will be coffee and hot chocolate also available by donations at the event, and 100.3 Q will be broadcasting live from the event.

For a little bit of extra excitement, the radio station will be offering a chance to win $1,000 to spend at the Westshore Town Centre, along with another $500 cash.
