The Victoria Royals are making plenty of noise on the ice this season, but next week, they’ll be helping make a difference off the scoreboard too.

With the team off to a red-hot start and enjoying an impressive road trip through Alberta, the Royals are preparing to team up with Canadian Blind Hockey for a special community event in Victoria.

On Wednesday, October 21st, Canadian Blind Hockey and the Victoria Royals will host a Try Skating and Blind Hockey event at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, welcoming people who are blind or partially sighted to experience the sport firsthand.

The event will feature on-ice support from Royals volunteers and members of the Victoria Canucks Blind Hockey Team, an all-ages local program supported by the Vancouver Canucks through the Canucks for Kids Fund.

Participants will have the opportunity to lace up their skates, learn about blind hockey and enjoy a behind-the-scenes arena tour, followed by a pizza lunch.

“Working with WHL teams like the Victoria Royals elevates Blind Hockey awareness across BC and Canada, and helps us reach deeper into the Victoria community so that anyone who is blind or partially sighted knows about the opportunity to try playing Blind Hockey,” said Matt Morrow, executive director of Canadian Blind Hockey.

The national charity has hosted more than 320 Try Skating and Blind Hockey events and is celebrating 16 years of programming across Canada.

Royals rolling through Alberta

Meanwhile, the Royals have been giving fans plenty to cheer about early in the 2026–27 WHL season.

Victoria has won six of its first seven games and sits atop the BC Division standings, entering Thursday with a perfect four-win record on the road.

Their latest victory came Wednesday night in Lethbridge, where the Royals defeated the Hurricanes 5-2 for their third consecutive win.

That followed another convincing 5-2 victory over the Calgary Hitmen on Thanksgiving Monday, highlighted by an outstanding four-goal performance from Hayden Moore.

The Royals also dominated the Medicine Hat Tigers 6-1 on Saturday, October 10th.

The Alberta road trip isn’t over yet, with Victoria scheduled to face the Red Deer Rebels on Friday, October 16th, before taking on the Edmonton Oil Kings on Sunday, October 18th.

When are the Royals back in Victoria?

Fans won’t have to wait much longer to see the team back on home ice.

The Royals return to Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for back-to-back games against the Kelowna Rockets on Friday, October 23rd, at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday, October 24th.

But before the home games get underway, the team will be helping introduce more local residents to the game through its partnership with Canadian Blind Hockey.

The October 21st event will take place at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, with skating and equipment preparation beginning at 12:45 p.m., followed by on-ice activities from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.
