Langford celebrates newly opened expansion of Veterans Memorial Park

The City of Langford’s largest and most prominent park has nearly doubled in size since its expansion was seen through to completion.

On Thursday, September 24th, the City celebrated the grand re-opening of Veterans Memorial Park and its significant expansion. 

The City says this park expansion project was informed by feedback from the community, and the result was over three acres of additional dedicated parkland.

The addition includes looped pathways for walking and running, a bandshell and performance lawn for entertainment, accessible picnic areas for gathering, enhanced washroom facilities and modern street furniture. 

Furthermore, there will soon be increased parking at the park. 

This expansion was funded entirely by Parkland Acquisition and Improvement Development Cost Charges at no cost to the taxpayer, says the City.

The park’s addition will help improve the many beloved community events that take place in the park, such as the annual Langford Light Up, Remembrance Day, Music in the Park and the Goldstream Farmers Market. 

“As a growing city, we often hear from the community that we need more spaces to gather outside,” said Langford Mayor Scott Goodmanson. 

“Veterans Memorial Park sits right in the heart of our community and the expanded space brings an opportunity for residents to gather, celebrate and enjoy the outdoors right in their backyard.”

The City noted that the park expansion was possible because of agreements to relocate both the West Shore Masonic Lodge and West Shore Chamber of Commerce. 

Veterans Memorial Park was originally established in September 2001. 

The City says that it remains a tribute to veterans of wars past and the armed forces who continue to serve Canada.
