Victoria Humane Society welcomes dozens of animals rescued from wildfire

The Victoria Humane Society says they have taken in nearly 30 animals after they were rescued from wildfires in Williams Lake.

On Wednesday, August 5th, the Victoria Humane Society made a post to Facebook to say they received 13 puppies, one adult dog and 14 kittens after the animals narrowly escaped a wildfire in Williams Lake.

The team’s volunteers met BC Rescue in Tsawwassen after a long, smoky trip from the Central Cariboo region.

The post made a special point to thank volunteer driver Jim Sullivan, who drove overnight through the treacherous conditions to make sure the animals arrived safely.

Once the animals arrived at the Victoria Humane Society safely, they were met with food, baths, blankets, medicine and cuddles from the welcoming staff.

“Currently thousands of homes across BC are estimated to be affected by the wildfires, putting countless families, pets, and livestock at risk,” the post reads.

“Sadly, we expect more emergency transports like this throughout the summer.”

The society is actively looking for new volunteers and fosters with fenced yards to take in the animals who have been forced to leave their homes.

At the moment, the new animals are still settling in and receiving medical evaluations. They will require some time before they are able to be made available for adoption and the society asks that the public allow some time before inquiring about them.
