BC SPCA asking what animal welfare issues matter most ahead of local elections

With the local election date coming up in mid-October, the BC SPCA is hoping to find out from communities throughout the province what animal welfare issues matter most to them. 

To achieve this, the organization has launched a short public survey that will be live until August 7th. 

The survey takes approximately three minutes to complete. 

Through this survey, the BC SPCA will gather data on the most pressing concerns impacting the lives of people and animals in BC. 

“It takes a whole community to care for animals. Pet guardians and other residents, organizations like the BC SPCA and local governments all working together to keep animals happy, healthy and safe means improved quality of life for animals and people,” said Ebony Logins, local government relations officer, BC SPCA.

“It gets us that one step closer to animals and people thriving together.”

Logins noted that community health and safety are improved when effective animal control bylaws are adopted and enforced. 

According to the organization, communities that have strong animal control bylaws and outline the minimum standards for animal care are able to address welfare concerns proactively, before a situation becomes too serious.

Part of the BC SPCA’s role as an animal advocacy group includes working with local governments to enhance animal welfare bylaws and policies. 

The results of the survey issued by the BC SPCA will help guide their advocacy work through the 2026 local government election, as well as the organization’s work to address the root causes of animal suffering.

The BC local election date has been set for October 17th.
