Police are asking the public for help as they continue to investigate the fire that destroyed the Garden Fork restaurant building in Brentwood Bay over the weekend.
According to the Central Saanich Police, officers discovered the fire at approximately 3 a.m. on Saturday, June 6th. The blaze caused severe damage to the restaurant located at the corner of Keating Cross Road and West Saanich Road.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Investigators are now asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area before the fire broke out, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage, to contact police.
Fire crews were called to the scene shortly after 3 a.m. and arrived to find the building fully engulfed.
According to the Central Saanich Fire Department, flames had spread through the basement, main floor and attic by the time crews arrived.
Firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby residential units east of the restaurant, which were not damaged.
The response included assistance from the Saanich Fire Department, while the Sidney Fire Department provided coverage for Central Saanich during the incident.
The building has been a longtime landmark in the Brentwood Bay area and has housed several popular restaurants over the years. Many residents remember it as the home of Sassy’s Family Restaurant before it later became Floyd’s Diner and, most recently, Garden Fork.
Following the fire, Garden Fork announced it would be closed until further notice.
No injuries have been reported.
Anyone with information related to the fire investigation is asked to contact Central Saanich Police Service via email.
