Happy Earth Day, Victoria!

From improv to a performance by a Canadian jazz legend, there are so many things happening this Wednesday that you won’t want to miss. And don’t forget, if you’re taking BC Transit to get there, it is FREE today.

Whether you’re trying to scratch that country music itch or laugh out loud with some stand-up comedy, there’s plenty going on to get you out and about in the community.

Here are 5 things happening in and around Victoria this Wednesday, April 22nd:

Louise Rose | Alone Together at Hermann’s Jazz Club

Join Canadian treasure Louise Rose at Hermann’s Jazz Club for a night of beautiful jazz music.

Rose studied classical voice in Pennsylvania with John Duddy and Todd Duncan, pipe organ with Catharine Brooke Morgan, piano with Oscar Peterson, conducting with Leonard Bernstein and arranging with Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington.

Some of her independent studies have been with Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald and B.B. King. Audiences are captivated by the wealth of experience, grace and charisma she brings to the stage.

Rose will perform solo jazz piano and vocals.

Tickets are $20 plus fees, and can be purchased here.

Meghan Patrick at Capital Ballroom

Any country music fans?

Born and raised in Bowmanville, Ontario, Meghan Patrick has dedicated her entire life to music, wanting it to be more than just a passion.

A multi-faceted musician from a young age, her background includes co-founding an all-girl band at age 13, studying opera and jazz, fronting a 10-piece funk act that once opened for Aretha Franklin and touring extensively as part of a bluegrass group.

She names John Prine, Neil Young and Waylon Jennings as a few of her musical inspirations.

Philips Comedy Night at the Mint

Every Wednesday, Morgan and Drew bring the best comics in the city together for a fresh, fun night of laughs in the heart of downtown Victoria. Wildly popular and always new, Comedy Night is a hilarious night out.

Don’t forget to grab some of the delicious west coast Himalayan cuisine that the Mint is famous for.

Tickets are $15 per person online and can be purchased here, or $20 per person at the door. Organizers say showing up 45 minutes early ensures you get the best seats.

Paper Street Theatre Improv Festival at Intrepid Theatre 

A celebration of improvisation that feels like theatre!

The Paper Street Theatre Improv Festival is back. This year’s festival will feature special guests Caity Curtis and Stephen Sim from Winnipeg’s The Improv Company, alongside Dave Morris, the artistic director of Paper Street Theatre.

Plus, a powerhouse ensemble of improvisers from across North America, including some former guest directors!

Each night, audiences will enjoy ensemble shows directed by our guest artists, as well as feature sets by these accomplished improvisers.

Wednesday Night Jam at the Loft Pub

Jam out with host Brooke Cooper at the Loft Pub.

This is an open invitation to Victoria’s music community to jam, collaborate and connect.

A great place to showcase your band, get some stage time and connect with other musicians. Bring your own instrument and/or microphone to participate.

Talk to Brooke to hook your band up with a 25 minute set.

It’s also wing night!
