Giacomo Puccini’s iconic Italian opera Tosca is coming to the Royal Theatre this February, presented by the Pacific Opera Victoria.

With opening night on February 18th, followed by performances on February 20th, 22nd, and 24th, audiences have multiple opportunities to experience this powerful 126-year-old masterpiece.

Set against the backdrop of political upheaval and war, Tosca follows the story of Floria Tosca, a fiery and devoted singer caught in a deadly triangle between her beloved, the revolutionary artist Mario Cavaradossi, and the corrupt, sadistic chief of police, Baron Scarpia.

Filled with drama, raw emotion, and passion, this opera unfolds as a brutal game of power and sacrifice, one that continues to captivate audiences more than a century after its debut.

This two-act, two-and-a-half-hour production is directed by Brenna Corner and stars Canadian-Italian baritone Brett Polegato as Baron Scarpia, alongside Mexican-American Soprano Catherine Thornsley as Floria Tosca.

Polegato has appeared in numerous Pacific Opera productions, including La Bohème in 1995 and 2018, Simon Boccanegra in 2016, and Falstaff in 2013. This production marks Thronsley’s Pacific Opera debut; however, she has previously performed the role of Tosca at The Glimmerglass Festival.

Whether you’re a longtime opera lover or new to Puccini’s work, Tosca offers Victoria the chance to experience one of opera’s most celebrated works.

Tickets start at $35 and are available now—secure yours to see Tosca at the Royal Theatre this February.
