The RCMP have just launched a nation-wide High Risk Child Sex Offender Database—the first of its kind in Canada.
The database contains information on people who have been found guilty of a sexual offence against children.
However, the database will only include those who are believed to still pose a high risk of committing crimes of a sexual nature.
All information contained in the database has previously been made public by a police service or public authority.
The RCMP says the database will rely on authorities recommending the inclusion of individuals after determining if they are high risk offenders.
“Children are amongst the most vulnerable members in our society, and our government is committed to keeping them safe,” said Gary Anandasangaree, Minister of Public Safety.
“The High Risk Child Sex Offender Database will help to protect children and their communities from harm by providing law enforcement agencies with an additional tool to ensure appropriate monitoring of high-risk offenders as well as providing the public with verified information to support their personal safety.”
The database was made possible through legislation passed in December 2024: the High Risk Child Sex Offender Database Act.
Currently the database only includes nine men.
No child sex offenders from BC have been uploaded to the database as of this publication.
Of those who have been included in the database, eight are based out of Manitoba and one is from Prince Edward Island.
On each offenders’ profile, a photo is included, along with a description of their physical appearance, basic details of the offences they have committed, the conditions they are subject to upon release and the municipality of their current known residence.
