Drug trafficking investigation leads to major drug and cash seizure in Saanich

Share

Saanich police have seized approximately seven kilograms of illegal drugs and more than $180,000 in cash following a months-long drug trafficking investigation.

This seizure follows the execution of search warrants at two homes in the municipality.

According to police, the searches were carried out on December 19th with assistance from the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team. The warrants stemmed from a months-long drug trafficking investigation that remains ongoing.

During the searches, officers located a large quantity of what is believed to be cocaine, along with smaller amounts of suspected fentanyl and MDMA.

Police estimate the total street value of the seized drugs at more than $250,000.

A 38-year-old Saanich man was arrested at the time the warrants were executed. Police say they expect to recommend charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking to Crown counsel.

“This is a significant amount of illegal drugs that has been taken out of our community. I’m
proud of the excellent investigative work that our officers have done on this file to date.
Their diligent efforts protect our community from harm, and I could not be prouder of the
professionalism and dedication they show every day,” said Chief Constable Dean Duthie.

Police noted the investigation is continuing and further updates may be provided as it progresses.
