Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement of strong winds for the Greater Victoria region.
According to the national weather authority, the strong winds are expected to persist beginning in the morning of Friday, October 24th, and will continue through until Saturday afternoon.
Residents of the region are being warned that power outages are possible from tree damage due to strong winds.
“A strong frontal system will cross southern Vancouver Island this morning,” said Environment Canada in the special weather statement.
“Southeast winds of 60 gusting to 80 km/h near Haro Strait will ease by late this morning.”
Once Friday’s weather system has passed, the weather authority says that another storm is expected to approach from the southwest on Saturday, which will bring more strong winds through the afternoon and evening.
Aside from the strong winds, Environment Canada’s weekend forecast calls for periods of rain throughout the day and evening of Friday, with a high of 12°C and a low of 8°C.
Saturday’s storm may bring more rain to the region with a predicted 30% chance of showers and a high of 12°C, with the overnight low reaching 8°C once again.
Sunday’s high is expected to be around 11°C with a 40% chance of showers and an overnight low of 6°C.
On Monday and through next week, Environment Canada predicts there will be more rain and not a lot of sun in the Greater Victoria forecast.
