Nanaimo RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying several individuals who allegedly assaulted an adult man on two separate occasions.

Police say the first altercation occurred sometime in the early evening of Friday October 3rd, while the other took place at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 4th.

They noted that both incidents occurred at the bus loop located on Port Drive, just south of Front Street and adjacent to the Port Place Mall.

When officers arrived at the scene, they met with the 19-year-old victim, who Nanaimo RCMP describe as a developmentally disabled man.

Police say he told them he was waiting for his bus, when two individuals approached, knocked him to the ground and proceeded to assault him.

He reportedly did not provoke the individuals who attacked him.

Police say they only obtained a description of one of the suspects, who was wearing a grey hoodie and brown shoes while the other wore a black hoodie.

After the alleged assault, the two individuals reportedly left on foot, running towards downtown.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, the victim later reported to police that he had also been allegedly assaulted the evening prior at the same bus stop, but he did not know the time.

The victim told investigators that in this incident, he was chased then assaulted by three teenagers wearing hoodies.

“These incidents occurred in an area that is frequented by pedestrians and vehicles that pass by,” said R/Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

“Based on this, police believe someone may have witnessed these incidents or have dashcam footage.”

Police ask anyone who has information, or dash cam footage on either of these two incidents to call Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345.
