Seven youths are facing charges after a teenager was attacked in Sooke earlier this summer.
According to Sooke RCMP, the incident occurred on the evening of July 2nd, near the 6660 block of Goodmere Road.
Police say a group of teens allegedly assaulted another youth, who needed medical help for their injuries. Someone recorded the attack and shared it on social media.
Investigators collected evidence that helped identify seven suspects. Warrants were issued for their arrests, and all of the youths have since been taken into custody.
Sooke RCMP confirmed that one of the arrests happened near a school, which raised concerns among parents.
“We are aware of concerns from parents regarding the arrest of one youth near school grounds,” said Staff Sergeant Greg Willcocks, detachment commander.
“We are taking the allegations of this assault very seriously.”
Because the suspects are minors, their identities are protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
