This isn’t just any annual maintenance break—Saanich Commonwealth Place has some big changes on the horizon!
As of August 25th, all of the pools at the centre have closed for maintenance, with reopening dates staggered over the coming weeks.
While the competition pool is expected to reopen on September 15th, the teach pool, wave pool, tots pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and dive tank will remain closed until October 27th.
Generally, their yearly maintenance takes roughly two weeks—so why the prolonged closure? The installation of a brand new waterslide!
This colourful, modern slide will be replacing the old one, which was built in 1993 and had been closed for nearly two years, as it was at the end of its lifespan.
The slide will be complete with patterned fibreglass sections, meant to enhance the thrill of the riders’ experience!

Additionally, the weight room is closed from August 27th to September 2nd, and once it reopens, users should note that the showers will be unavailable until the competition pool reopens.
Memberships will remain valid at all Saanich recreation facilities while upgrades are underway, and pass holders can also access pools at other regional facilities with a valid expiry sticker.
“We thank you for your patience and look forward to welcoming you back to celebrate the opening of the new waterslide this fall!” a recent release reads.
