Experience karaoke like never before, Victoria!

This Saturday, August 23rd, Salty Broad Productions is presenting ‘Karaoke Tease’ at KWENCH—bringing a saucy mashup of burlesque, drag, dance, high-camp cabaret energy and karaoke.

Who’s singing, you may ask? You are! Audience members provide the epic vocals while an all-star lineup of performers improvise larger-than life numbers to bring each song to life.

The lineup includes Sylvester Staletto, Titty Titty Bang Bang, Holy Shirt, Henrietta Dubet, Lil’ Jam Jam and more.

“This ain’t your grandma’s karaoke—unless grandma is a certified freak, in which case, hey gramma, come sing with us!” said Sarah Murphy, Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Salty Broad Productions.

The evening is promised to be a whirlwind of entertainment, with the infamous Wheel of Whimsy, the Newlymet Game, a costume contest around the theme “Dive Bar Burlesque,” a live auction, themed cocktails and more!

A good time for a good cause, this show doubles as a critical fundraiser for Victoria’s arts scene at a time when performance spaces continue to dwindle.

With the Roxy and Victoria Event Centre’s closure, as well as the upcoming loss of The Metro Studio Theatre this December, Murphy added that events like this are more than just entertainment.

“Every time we lose a venue, we lose more than just a building—we lose gathering spaces where community is built, where artists take risks, where magic happens,” said Murphy.

“That’s exactly why events like Karaoke Tease matter. We’re not just raising funds, we’re declaring that Victoria’s arts scene refuses to go quietly into that good night.”

All of the proceeds will go towards the remount of Hail Santa: A Salty Broadmas Holiday Spectacular (happening December 18th to 20th), which will double as a farewell to The Metro Studio Theatre.

The aim is to raise $16,000 to cover production costs, artist fees, crew and equipment. In addition to the sales from Karaoke Tease, Murphy says that Salty Broad is also happy to accept community sponsorships, donations and partnerships to reach their goal.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. for the karaoke sign-ups, and everyone is welcome to get drinks and browse the auction items before the show begins at 8 p.m.

If you’ve always wanted to see your favourite karaoke track transformed into an entrancing burlesque spectacle, this will be perfect for you!

General admission tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.
