There’s a three day Caribbean festival returning to Victoria this month

Share

Mark your calendars for a special festival, Victoria!

After a successful inaugural year, the Vancouver Island Caribbean Hub is cranking up the heat as i-Land Fest returns to the heart of downtown.

Running from Friday, August 29th to Sunday, August 31st, the festival will take over Ship Point in Victoria’s Inner Harbour, and will be celebrating all things Caribbean.

Live music, dancing, food and cultural experiences will take place with the stunning waterfront as a backdrop, transporting attendees straight to the islands.

“This year’s expansion to three days means more music, more flavour, and more opportunities for people to connect,” says Oneil Randall, President of the Vancouver Island Caribbean Hub.

Opening night on Friday will present a Steel Pan Showcase, featuring bands from Vancouver performing melodic percussion born in Trinidad and Tobago.

The party doesn’t end there, with GLOW as the afterparty, which will be a high-energy 19+ dance event at Ambrosia Banquet Hall.

Saturday brings the Carnival Parade—one of the most anticipated moments in the festival. Dancers in vibrant, feathered costumes will bring Government Street to life.

The Parade kicks off at 10 a.m., starting at 2326 Government Street, travelling straight down Government Street and ending at Ship Point around noon.

Both Saturday and Sunday will be jam-packed with live performances, a Kids Zone, over 35 artisan vendors, food vendors serving authentic cuisine, a Game Zone boasting a mix of Caribbean games, a Cultural Exhibit and more.

The Cultural Exhibit will bring guests on a journey through the history and heritage of the Caribbean.

Don’t miss out on the grand finale on Sunday night, featuring Benjai, one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most celebrated soca artists.

Whether you’re there for a portion or for it all, there’s bound to be something incredible to see and experience!
