The Victoria Track Classic is lacing up for another action-packed year—and it’s more than just a track meet!
Set for Sunday, June 22nd at the University of Victoria’s Centennial Stadium, the event promises an exciting blend of high-level competition and family-friendly festivities as part of the National Track and Field Tour.
Gates open at 1:30 p.m., but young athletes can get a head start with the VTC Run, Jump, Throw, presented by Andrew Sheret and powered by RunSport.
This free, one-hour clinic begins at 1 p.m. and offers kids ages 5–10 the chance to explore the basics of track and field through fun, game-based activities. It’s an encouraging, playful introduction to sport—and a great way to burn off a little pre-race energy. You can sign up your kids for the Run, Jump, Throw here!
Back by popular demand is the Thunder Run, where kids can line up for a thrilling 400m dash with none other than Thunder, the beloved Vikes mascot, cheering them on. It’s fast, it’s free, and it’s absolutely adorable.
But the real show begins on the track, where some of Canada’s top middle-distance athletes—including Olympic Development Athletes and emerging talent—will go head-to-head in a full afternoon of competitive action. Among the standout names is UVic Vikes’ own Marisha Thompson, who’s using the meet as part of her final prep for the World University Games this July.
Off the track, spectators can enjoy music, food and drink vendors, and a kids zone complete with inflatables—making it a perfect outing for sports lovers and families alike.
