A 35-year-old Parksville man has been arrested after a series of break-and-enters in the area of French Creek of Oceanside last week.
On Thursday, May 22nd at around 1 a.m., a resident in the 900 block of Riley Road in French Creek reported that someone had tried to enter their residence through a sliding glass door.
Police arrived on scene, confirming that no entry had been made, but they were unable to locate the suspect.
Then, at around 7 a.m., police were informed that there was another break and enter in progress on the same street.
Police confirmed the break and enter had occurred at an unoccupied residence, but the suspect wasn’t located.
During neighbourhood enquiries, officers discovered a third property on the same street had a shed broken into, and an attempt to break into the unoccupied residence on the property was made.
Using provided video surveillance footage, investigators were able to identify the suspect as a 35-year-old Parksville man who is known to police.
He was arrested shortly after 10 a.m. and was held in custody until his court appearance on May 23rd.
“Thanks to video surveillance installed by property owners, officers were able to quickly identify the suspect and take him into custody,” said Sergeant Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP.
According to police, the clothing worn by the suspect and several items stolen from the break and enters have not been recovered.
The items include a blue Adidas jacket with white stripes, red motocross helmet, pink bag, Nintendo Switch game console, various watches and a wooden frame air soft rifle with a scope.
Investigators believe the items may have been dropped or stashed in the area by the suspect.
If anyone comes across the suspect’s clothing or stolen items, call Oceanside RCMP at (250) 248-6111 and quote file # 2025-4840.
