Comox Valley RCMP are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who allegedly approached a student while dressed as a clown.
According to police, on April 24th, police received a report at 2:35 p.m. that a student was walking home from school along 16th Street, between Grieve Avenue and McPhee Avenue in Courtenay when she was approached and offered a ride and candy.
The suspect is described as a tall man, with shaggy brown hair that hung around his face, and possibly had bright green streaks near the top or centre.
He had blue eyes, a slight belly, and was wearing black shoes, bright clothing, a black clown nose and white face paint.
Police arrived in the area immediately and conducted neighborhood enquiries, searching for witnesses and potential video surveillance.
“This person would have likely stood out in any setting,” said Cst. Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer, Comox Valley RCMP.
“Even if you saw someone matching this description outside of the immediate area where the incident occurred—before or after—it could still be relevant to our investigation.”
Terragni added that this serves as a reminder to have age-appropriate conversations with any children in your care about safety and caution around strangers.
