Nanaimo RCMP confirmed a 42-year-old man died from his wounds over the weekend after being struck by a motor vehicle.
The incident reportedly occurred just before 5 a.m. on Saturday April 26th, at the Norwell Road and Highway 19A intersection.
Following the incident, police, firefighters and paramedics responded.
After speaking with the driver involved and an independent witness, police determined that the vehicle in question was driving northbound on Highway 19A and was passing through the intersection on a green light when the pedestrian was struck.
Police say the victim was transported to the Nanaimo hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver reportedly remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Additionally, police say that no signs of impairment were detected and road conditions were not a factor.
The vehicle was towed from the scene and will undergo a mechanical inspection.
While an RCMP Collision Analyst examined the scene over the weekend, the intersection remained closed, but is now open to traffic once again.
As police continue to investigate, they are asking for any witnesses or any motorists with dash cam video, from between 4:30 a.m. to 4:50 a.m. on April 26th, to contact Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345.
