Nearly a year after a deadly stabbing in Victoria, police have arrested two men in connection to the case.
On April 9th, 2024, VicPD were called to the 2900-block of Douglas Street just before midnight, following a report of a stabbing.
When they arrived, they found one man suffering from serious injuries. Despite life-saving efforts from both officers and BC Emergency Health Services paramedics, the victim died at the scene.
The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) took over the investigation shortly after the incident.
On Tuesday, April 15th, just over a year after the incident, police confirmed that 37-year-old Tighson Laughren and 31-year-old Brody Laughren-Smith have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection to the homicide.
Both men remain in custody as they await their next court appearance.
While details on both suspects are limited as of this publication, back in March 2020, Laughren was one of three men a violent home invasion which took place in the 1000 block of Caledonia Avenue of that year.
When he was arrested, police located a loaded tactical-style rifle after receiving a disturbance call from a residential building in the 200 block of Hampton Road.
As the current case is now before the courts, police said no further details would be released.
The stabbing was the second fatal incident of its kind in Victoria within just over a week last spring. On March 31st, 2024, another man was killed following a stabbing in the 700-block of Pandora Avenue.
