Victoria is set to lose another beloved restaurant as Sult Pierogi Bar & Papa’s Poutinerie has announced its permanent closure.
The downtown staple, known for its creative take on Eastern European-inspired dishes, will close its doors for the final time on Wednesday, February 12th.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the restaurant cited ongoing struggles within the hospitality industry as the primary reason for shutting down.
“The last few years have been very hard for the restaurant industry, and we have fought a great battle, but unfortunately, there was no winning this one,” the post read. “We don’t see this year being the year to save this industry.”
Since opening nearly a decade ago, Sult Pierogi Bar has been a go-to spot for food lovers seeking a modern twist on Eastern European comfort food.
The eatery prided itself on its unique take on pierogi, featuring unexpected flavour combinations that set it apart from traditional offerings.
The industrial-style restaurant was also home to Papa’s Poutinerie, which specialized in loaded fries topped with a variety of indulgent ingredients.
The announcement is yet another blow to Victoria’s food scene, which has seen several well-loved restaurants close their doors over the past six months. Rising operational costs, inflation, and shifting dining habits have made it increasingly difficult for independent eateries to stay afloat.
Customers who have gift cards are encouraged to redeem them before the closure, and the restaurant has invited patrons to visit one last time before saying goodbye.
“We would love to see as many of you as we can before we close our doors forever,” the post stated. “It has been our pleasure to host and serve you over the last nine and a half years.”
With its closure, downtown Victoria bids farewell to yet another cherished establishment, leaving behind a legacy of flavour and innovation that will not soon be forgotten.
