Comox Valley RCMP is looking for witnesses regarding an investigation of arson that occurred on January 30th at the old Courtenay Train Station.
At around 9:30 p.m., police received a report from the Courtenay Fire Department that they were extinguishing a fire on the steps of the old Courtenay Train Station.
While at the scene, a witness approached firefighters with and provided video footage that showed an individual approaching the area and lighting a fire before departing on foot.
Investigators have obtained the footage from the witness and have been canvassing the area for additional surveillance footage.
“We are waiting to hear from several businesses regarding additional footage of the suspect,” said Cst. Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer with the Comox Valley RCMP.
“In the meantime, we are asking anyone who was in the area before and after 8:30 p.m. to review their surveillance or dashcam footage and to recall any unusual activity that may assist in the investigation.”
The image of the suspect provided by the witness shows a person wearing a beige jacket, with patterned pants, beige boots and a black backpack with lighter-colored item(s) attached, according to police.
Comox Valley RCMP say they have seized evidence from the scene and are receiving assistance in their investigation from the Integrated Forensic Identification Section.
