Last week, 67-year-old Bruce Twentyman tragically died after he was struck by a vehicle while walking.
According to police, he had been walking along Rainbow Road on Salt Spring Island, where he was living when a vehicle struck him.
He was airlifted to Victoria General Hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
Twentyman passed away on Tuesday, October 29th after the incident, but died with family and friends by his side.
Since his untimely passing, a GoFundMe page has been launched by his niece to help pay for funeral costs and support.
“With Terry, Dawn, Melanie, Taylin and a few of his friends by his side as he took his last breaths,” wrote Nicole Twentyman, organizer of the fundraiser.
“He will be greatly missed by all.”
She added that several family members dropped everything and rushed to be by his side in his last moments.
“Travel expenses have added up as well as lost wages, and they continue to do so as they all work to complete final arrangements to ensure Bruce is put to rest the way he wished to be,” Nicole wrote.
She says that any funds would be greatly appreciated by the family to help cover the costs of flights, ferries, fuel, accommodations and food.
Thus far, the GoFundMe has garnered just $650 of its $8,000 goal.
