Major crime unit called to Lake Cowichan following suspected homicide

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) has been called in to assist with a suspected homicide investigation in Lake Cowichan.

On September 3rd, at approximately 11 p.m., Lake Cowichan RCMP officers responded to a residence in the 7900 block of Cowichan Lake Road.

They were conducting a search for Tavis Cragg, who had been reported missing from Nanaimo earlier that day. Upon arrival, officers discovered Cragg, who is believed to be the victim of a homicide.

The VIIMCU has since taken over the investigation. Police have identified a suspect, who has been interviewed by investigators.

The investigation is still in its early stages. However, police believe the incident is isolated and pose no ongoing risk to public safety.

The case remains under investigation, and further details are not available at this time. The VIIMCU is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact their Information Line at (250) 380-6211.
