As summer begins to wind down, the much-anticipated 156th Saanich Fair, Western Canada’s oldest continuous agricultural fair, is set to return this Labour Day weekend.

Whether you’re a long-time attendee or a first-time visitor, this year’s event promises a mix of beloved traditions and exciting new features that make it a must-visit for the whole family.

West Coast Amusements is once again bringing their array of rides and games, but this year’s midway is bigger than ever.

The fair has expanded the midway space, adding five more rides than last year, which should help reduce wait times and allow more time for fun. For those eager to get a head start on the fun, ride passes purchased before August 29th come with a $10 discount.

Kicking off on Friday, August 30th, the Saanich Fair is offering free entry from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. For those looking to enjoy the rides, here are the hours for the weekend:

  • Friday, August 30th: 3 p.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 31st: 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Sunday, September 1st: 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Monday, September 2nd: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

This year, the Saanich Fair is introducing some fresh attractions while keeping all the classic activities that attendees love.

New to the Agriplex, donkeys will be making their debut alongside the Mighty Draft Horses, offering more for animal lovers to enjoy.

Additionally, the Rotary Games of Chance have moved to the area behind the main stage, where the kid zone was previously located. Sheep and cattle will now share the beef barns, with their shows taking place in the ring.

For the first time ever, the fair will be offering a small selection of beer and cider as part of a bistro-style café experience. This new addition is sure to be a hit with fairgoers looking to relax and enjoy a refreshing drink while soaking in the lively atmosphere.

The Saanich Fair wouldn’t be complete without its signature events and activities.

Visitors can look forward to classic contests like the pie-eating competition and pedal tractor, as well as an abundance of local farm-fresh produce. True to its roots, the fair will showcase a variety of farm animals, including chickens, alpacas, and more.

Another highlight of the weekend will be performances by Fleetwood Magic on Saturday and StreetHeart on Sunday—both concerts kick off at 8 p.m. The best part? Your entrance ticket grants you access to the main stage, so you won’t miss out on these iconic performances.

This year will feature over 30 different food vendors spread throughout the event. Many regulars are returning. Check out the full list here:

The 156th Saanich Fair promises to be an unforgettable experience filled with family-friendly fun, delicious food, and a celebration of the region’s rich agricultural heritage—the full program list can be viewed here.

To make things even better, the wet weather we’ve been experiencing is about to dissipate, and sunny skies are on the way for Labour Day weekend. Friday’s weather is expected to reach a pleasant 24°C, with temperatures climbing to 26°C for the rest of the weekend. So, don’t forget to pack your sunscreen and enjoy the sunshine!
