Sooke District Councillor Dana Lajeunesse is stepping out of local politics and moving into provincial politics now that he has won the BC NDP nomination for the Juan de Fuca-Malahat electoral District.
Lajeunesse’s family has lived in Sooke for three generations, and he has been councillor for the past two terms.
Prior to getting into politics, Lajeunesse was a Mechanical Engineering Technologist and before that worked in the forestry industry.
He says he is running on a platform of bringing sustainable and diversified economic development in the region.
“People in Juan de Fuca-Malahat need good jobs in a sustainable economy, affordable housing, and a strong public healthcare system,” said Lajeunesse.

Lajeunesse will be going up against the Conservative Party of BC’s Marina Sapozhnikov and the BC Green Party’s David Evans.
The BC United Party has yet to announce their candidates in this riding.
Sapozhnikov is a Ukrainian immigrant who came to Canada by way of Israel in 2004 and has a background as a family doctor.
She says she would use her expertise in medicine to help the Conservatives in their healthcare reform plan.
Evans’ background is in business as the owner of Stick in the Mud’s Coffee Roastoreum as well as in the radio and media industry.
He says his concerns are focussed on traffic, the cost of living, housing insecurity, healthcare, political division, drought, and the climate crisis.
The upcoming election will take place on October 19th.
