This year marks a culinary milestone, as Caesar salad is celebrating its 100th birthday!
Created in 1924 by Caesar Cardini, an Italian-American restaurateur, the salad has since become a staple on menus worldwide, celebrated for its simplicity, freshness, and robust flavours.
Legend has it that Cardini, operating a restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico, faced an unexpected rush of customers one Fourth of July weekend.
With supplies low, he improvised a salad using the ingredients he had on hand: romaine lettuce, garlic, croutons, Parmesan cheese, olive oil, egg, and Worcestershire sauce.
This impromptu creation was tossed tableside for a dramatic presentation, capturing the hearts and palates of diners instantly.
With all that said, we decided to ask members in the Victoria Buzz Facebook group where the best spot to grab a Caesar salad.
These were some of the top responses:
- Mary’s Bleue Moon Cafe
- Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub
- Zambri’s
- The Keg
- My-Chosen Café
- Lot 1 Pasta Bar
- Milestones
- Pagliacci’s
- Red Barn Market
- Four Mile Brew Pub
- Nautical Nellies Steak & Seafood House
- Sea Glass Waterfront Grill
