If you sensed a slight tremor this morning, don’t worry, it wasn’t Santa causing it!
Residents on southern Vancouver Island, including Victoria and Sooke, are reporting they felt this morning’s moderate earthquake in northern Washington early Sunday morning.
The Christmas eve tremor had a 4.1 magnitude and is reported to have took place just after 7 a.m., in Quilcene, Washington state, approximately 100 kilometers south of Victoria.

Nearly a 100 people from Greater Victoria took to Earthquakes Canada to report they had felt the quake.
Simultaneously, the United States Geological Survey received around 425 reports, with a majority emanating from the Seattle area and extending northward. A few reports also reached the US-based organization from pockets on Vancouver Island.
This seismic activity, arriving on Christmas Eve, comes on the heels of another quake measuring magnitude 4.9 along British Columbia’s northern coast a week prior.
There were no reports of damage or injury and there is no risk of tsunami.
