Some of the world’s best curlers are descending on Victoria this week as the Grand Slam of Curling (GSOC) makes its long-awaited return to BC.
The GSOC gets underway Tuesday, October 13th, at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, bringing six days of international competition to the capital until Sunday, October 18th.
The tournament marks the opening event of the 2026–27 Grand Slam of Curling season and features sixteen of the world’s top men’s teams and sixteen women’s teams competing for a combined $400,000 prize purse.
It’s also a significant return for the sport, with the province hosting its first Grand Slam of Curling event in a decade. The last tournament held in the province took place in Colwood in March 2016.
Among the big names competing this week are Canadian curling stars Rachel Homan and Brad Jacobs, along with Scotland’s Bruce Mouat, Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg and Manitoba’s Matt Dunstone.
Homan’s team enters the tournament ranked number one in the world, while Jacobs and Hasselborg are among the Olympic gold medallists taking part.
Victoria will also have some hometown representation, with Team Reese-Hansen and Team MacMillan competing in the women’s division.
For Team Reese-Hansen, the tournament marks its debut at a top-tier Grand Slam event, giving the local squad an opportunity to compete against some of the sport’s biggest names in front of a hometown crowd.
The action begins Tuesday with four draws scheduled throughout the day, followed by round-robin competition through the week and playoff action over the weekend.
The women’s and men’s championship finals will take place Sunday, October 18th.
The excitement won’t be limited to the ice.
Organizers are also hosting Après Curl at the Victoria Curling Club, located just steps from Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
Running throughout the tournament, the gathering will feature live music, refreshments, special guests and entertainment between and after draws.
Thursday, October 15th, will also feature Pride Night programming as part of the festivities.
Tickets are still available for those hoping to catch some of the action in person, with single-draw tickets, day passes, weekend packages and full-event passes available.
Single-draw tickets start at $30.45, with pricing varying depending on the day and session.
Fans unable to attend can follow the tournament through Sportsnet, Sportsnet+, CBC and CBC Gem, with coverage continuing through Sunday’s championship finals.
