The City of Victoria’s upgrades to a stretch of Cook Street are nearing completion.
The corridor stretches from Bay Street to Maplewood Road, and improvements included road paving and maintenance, protected bike lanes, accessibility improvements, intersection safety upgrades and three new crosswalks.
According to the City, Cook Street has been one of the highest collision corridors in Victoria, and the improvements were undertaken in an effort to help move towards the goal of eliminating traffic-related deaths and serious injuries.
Cook Street’s upgrades started in January 2026 and are now almost complete as crews are wrapping up the project’s finishing touches.
On Wednesday, October 28th, crews will be working on the corner of Cook and Finlayson Street to finish electrical work on a traffic pole.
The City says this work may cause short-term intersection closures, lane closures and pedestrian detours.
Aside from that, crews will be wrapping up electrical work, final inspections and testing along the entirety of the impacted section of Cook Street before the project can officially be declared finished.
