West Shore RCMP are investigating two suspected impaired-driving incidents in Langford just days apart, including a fiery crash that sent two people to hospital with serious injuries.
The first incident occurred on Saturday, October 17th, at approximately 9:26 p.m., near the 2000-block of the Trans-Canada Highway.
According to police, a sedan was travelling northbound when it crossed the highway median, entered the southbound lanes and crashed into a rock wall.
By the time officers arrived, the vehicle was engulfed in flames.
Langford firefighters responded and extinguished the blaze, while the driver and passenger were transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the driver was arrested in connection with suspected impaired driving, and investigators made a blood demand to determine the driver’s blood alcohol level.
Despite the vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic, police confirmed that no other vehicles were struck.
Just three days later, in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 20th, West Shore RCMP received several reports of a vehicle driving erratically in the Goldstream Avenue area.
One caller reported that the vehicle had crashed into a fence. Officers later located the vehicle and its driver, who they suspected was impaired by alcohol.
Police said the 21-year-old male driver provided breath samples using an approved roadside screening device, which registered a fail result.
He was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
The two incidents come as West Shore RCMP report that officers have removed 144 impaired drivers from local roads during the first nine months of 2026.
Police are reminding motorists that impaired driving is preventable and urging everyone to plan ahead when consuming alcohol.
Drivers are encouraged to arrange a designated driver, use a taxi or rideshare service or find another safe way home rather than getting behind the wheel while impaired.
