Vancouver Island-filmed ‘Yaga’ series releases this Friday

There’s no better way to celebrate October than with a scary movie or television show.

With some impeccable timing, the Vancouver Island-filmed series Yaga is set to release this Friday, October 23rd on Crave—just in time for Halloween.

The excitement around the show has continued to build in recent months, with the show expected to be an immediate hit.

The series features Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams, who has become a global celebrity thanks to his role in the breakout drama featuring queer hockey players.

The actor, originally hailing from Kamloops, has a bit of a history with Victorians after saying the city was “dead as f*** and full of old people” while being interviewed at a Balenciaga show back in January of this year.

Hudson’s comments aside, Vancouver Island is a hot spot filming location for television series.

Earlier this summer, Netflix‘s Crew Girl also released, which made use of Victoria and Sidney for its rowing and seaside town scenes.

While Crew Girl highlighted the quaint qualities of Vancouver Island, Yaga aims to place a different, darker lens on the Pacific Northwest.

The show will make use of the region’s misty mountains, forests and beaches as an eerie backdrop for the series that is centred around the witch-like character from Slavic folklore, Baba Yaga.

Victorians know all too well that the city is often associated with paranormal activity—here’s hoping Yaga won’t scare Vancouver Islanders away from the locations that are bound to be familiar in the show.
