It looks like the rest of the world is catching on to what Vancouver Islanders have known for years… Tofino is a pretty incredible place to visit.
The popular west coast community has been named one of the world’s top 10 trending travel destinations for 2027, according to a new report from travel search engine Skyscanner.
Tofino landed in 10th place on the international list, with flight searches for the destination jumping an impressive 83% compared to the previous year.
The annual rankings highlight destinations seeing some of the biggest increases in traveller interest, based on flight search data.
And Tofino wasn’t the only BC community to make the cut. Penticton also earned a spot on the list, coming in fifth with a 137% increase in flight searches.
For anyone who has spent time on Vancouver Island’s west coast, Tofino’s growing popularity probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
The community has long been a favourite for its sandy beaches, surfing, ancient rainforests and laid-back atmosphere.
Skyscanner pointed to many of those same qualities when highlighting Tofino as a destination worth visiting.
“Wild beaches, ancient rainforest and a laid-back surf culture make Tofino one of Canada’s most rewarding coastal escapes,” the travel company wrote.
“It’s the perfect place to slow down, reconnect with nature and enjoy a memorable summer getaway without leaving the country.”
From catching waves at Cox Bay and Chesterman Beach to exploring Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, there’s no shortage of reasons why visitors keep coming back.
And while Tofino is a popular summer destination, it’s also become a favourite during the colder months, particularly for storm watching when powerful Pacific storms roll onto the coast.
Tofino found itself alongside some pretty impressive destinations on Skyscanner’s list.
Cardiff, Wales, took the top spot with a whopping 1,046% increase in flight searches, followed by St. George’s, Grenada, at 156%, and Tivat, Montenegro, at 149%.
Other destinations making the top 10 included Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia, Salzburg in Austria, Bergen in Norway, Olbia in Italy and Podgorica in Montenegro.
The rankings compared return flight searches made between January 1st and June 17th, 2026, with the same period in 2025.
While the numbers don’t necessarily mean more people have booked trips to Tofino, they do show growing interest in the Vancouver Island destination.
And with Tofino now sitting alongside some of the world’s most popular emerging travel spots, it’s safe to say Vancouver Island’s west coast continues to make an impression.
