Oak Bay police seek suspects tied to fraud ring operating across BC and Alberta

Oak Bay Police are asking for the public’s help identifying two people believed to be connected to multiple frauds across BC and Alberta.

According to Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers, the two suspects in a picture released online are believed to be part of a fraud ring that deposited fraudulent cheques into newly opened accounts before withdrawing the cash.

Police have not released further details about the number of fraudulent transactions involved or the total amount of money taken.

Anyone who recognizes either person or has information that could help identify them is asked to contact police.

Apparent rifle prompts police response in Oak Bay

In a separate and unrelated incident, Oak Bay Police responded to the 2100 block of Oak Bay Avenue near Theatre Lane shortly before 7 a.m. on Sunday, September 20th.

Police had received a report of a man who appeared to be carrying a rifle. A police dog team was brought in to assist with the response.

Officers located the man and took him into custody without incident.

A search of the immediate area uncovered an object constructed from metal piping and secured with rope, cloth and bicycle locks.

Police determined that while the object could resemble a rifle from a distance, it was not a firearm.

During the investigation, officers identified the man and learned he was wanted on an endorsed warrant connected to a 2025 Columbia Valley RCMP investigation involving break-and-enter and assault.

The man was served with an appearance notice and released from custody pending a future court appearance.
