Looking for something to do tonight?
The Vic Theatre, in partnership with the Greater Victoria Public Library and the Victoria Film Festival, is offering a free screening from a Victoria local tonight.
The film Mildlife follows a hardcore drummer, whose world is thrown off-beat when his girlfriend wants to leave their small town just as he’s struggling to care for his parents, both of whom live with cerebral palsy.
Mildlife is described as a coming-of-age film with a protagonist navigating through life one decision at a time.
This is the newest project from Cory Thibert, the Victoria-based director, writer and producer of the film. His other projects include the film On the Fringe, which took home the Screen Nova Scotia award for Best Documentary Film in 2023, as well as short films 127 Seconds and Eyetooth.
Mildlife had its world premiere at the Woodstock Film Festival in October 2025, and its Canadian premier at the Victoria Film Festival (VFF) in February of this year.
The film was a crowd favourite, taking home the award for Best Canadian Feature at VFF.

Since then, the film has been shown at several festivals and events around the US and Canada, drawing awards and nominations, including being a nominee for the Best British Columbia Feature Film at the Sundar Prize Film Festival 2026.
Thibert was also nominated for the BC Performer’s Mastery Award at Sundar Festival.
The evening film will be followed by a Q&A with Thibert, as well as a member of the Cerebral Palsy Association of BC.
