Elections BC hiring 17K short-term positions prior to provincial election

Elections BC has announced it will be hiring approximately 17,000 short-term positions ahead of the October 24th provincial election. 

The electoral organization says it is looking for people who enjoy participating in the democratic process, working with a wide variety of people and being part of a provincewide team. 

The positions Elections BC is hiring for will help ensure voters receive excellent service and have the opportunity to vote. 

It was noted that most positions are for one day—final voting day on October 24th—but that there may be opportunities available for those hoping to work multiple days.

In order to apply for one of these positions, applicants must be at least 15 years old and legally entitled to work in BC and be able to provide their own transportation to and from work. 

Elections BC says that submitting an application does not guarantee employment, and if one does get offered a position, they will have to provide their social insurance number. 

Those successful in acquiring a position will have to complete online training and attend in-person classroom training, which is mandatory. 

Jobs available include ballot issuing officers, information officers, tabulator officers, voting equipment officers and supervisory voting officers. 

Pay for these positions range from $342 to $460 per day, with both in-person and online training sessions being paid for as well. 

Elections BC says hopeful applicants should expect a long work day, typically lasting 15 hours or more, and must be able to sit or stand for extended periods. 

The final voting day workday will begin at 7 a.m. and end at approximately 10 p.m.
