Truth and Reconciliation at the Royal BC Museum

A day of reflection, truth telling, celebration of cultures and more!

Head to the Royal BC Museum for a day of learning, reflection and celebration of Indigenous knowledge, culture and resilience through a series of presentations, performances, storytelling sessions, films and community conversation.

Beginning at 10 a.m. in the Conference Hall, the program brings together Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, artists, historians, dancers, musicians and community leaders to share stories of history, cultural continuity, resistance and renewal.

Throughout the day, visitors will experience presentations on Indigenous worldviews, local and national histories, poetry and spoken word, drumming and singing, dance performances and facilitated discussions that honour both truth-telling and the strength of Indigenous communities.

Josephine: A Fringe Fundraiser at McPherson Playhouse

Before Ella, Tina, Billie or Beyoncé, there was Josephine.

Josephine is an international award-winning off-Broadway one-woman biographical musical that combines cabaret, theatre and dance to tell the story of the iconic Josephine Baker, the first African-American international superstar and one of the most remarkable figures of the 20th Century.

Tymisha Harris stars in this dazzling retelling of Josephine Baker’s life as singer, movie star, Second World War spy, civil rights activist and cultural icon.

Author Event with Keiko Honda & Arleen Paré at Munro’s Books

Join Munro’s Books as they welcome authors Keiko Honda and Arleen Paré for an evening of poetry and memoir!

Listen in on a delightful, warming conversation between the authors and get your books signed in person.

In her third memoir, Words That Last, Honda writes from a particular threshold: her daughter’s room stands empty, her father’s voice thins across long-distance calls, her mother speaks to her six times daily though she’s been dead for six years.

Living alone in Vancouver with her cat Pumpkin, Honda finds herself between languages, between countries, between the body she had and the body she inhabits now.

Paré is a writer with ten collections of poetry, based in Victoria.

She has been short-listed for the BC Dorothy Livesay Award for Poetry and has won the American Golden Crown Award for Poetry, the Victoria Butler Book Prize, a CBC Bookie Award, and a Governor Generals’ Award for Poetry.

This event is free and everyone is welcome to attend.

Black Angus is about good friends, good humour and good songs.

Their enthusiastic performances take listeners from Vancouver Island to Ireland and back again, fueled by collaboration, innovation and a sheer enjoyment of what they do.
