iji, Fond and Palace Oaks at Cinderbloc Studios

Itching for some live music?

Head down to Cinderbloc studios, where the indie pop sound of Zach Burba’s iji returns to Victoria for the first time since 2009.

iji is the long-living, flexi-musical output project of west coast DIY pop eccentric Zach Burba.

Supporting iji will be Fond and Palace Oaks.

Pop-up performance: Savoy Singers at Monterey Recreation Centre

Catch a free pop-up performance!

Savoy Singers will be performing at the Monterey Rec Centre.

They’ll be bringing a selection of popular songs from Gilbert & Sullivan.

These performances are free and everyone is welcome to attend.

The Next Rooster – Book Signing and Tasting with Author Michael Godel at Vessel Liquor

In this special event, author Michael Godel will be sharing wines and stories from his newly published book about Chianti Classico.

The Next Rooster is a portrait of continuity in motion.

Through 44 essays, it brings together the stories of families whose lives, vineyards and futures are rooted in the hills of Chianti Classico, one of Italy’s most historic and dynamic wine regions.

United by the symbol of the Gallo Nero—the Black Rooster—these daughters, sons, nieces and nephews represent the next generation stepping into roles shaped by inheritance, responsibility and change.

Attendees will receive a signed copy of the newly released book (retail price $65.00), taste through wines from producers featured in its pages, enjoy small bites and hear stories of Chianti Classico from the author, Michael Godel.

BP Clarke & Friends at The Loft Pub

Longtime Victoria resident BP Clarke has been playing, singing and performing music for more than 40 years.

He’s played in several cover bands in Regina, Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria as well as stints as a professional musician in Taiwan, Philippines, Korea and India.

Although his set list touches a range of genres, Clarke’s core sound is heavily influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Eagles, Van Morrison, CCR and 60s psychedelia.

In recent years he has been rediscovering the country influences he absorbed growing up, with a focus on roots Americana/alt-country artists such as Steve Earle, Wilco, Little Feat, Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, Jason Isbell, Dwight Yoakam, Gram Parsons and of course Waylon, Willie and Merle.

He’s also one half of the Victoria folk-rock duo Out of the Woods, featuring Patty Castle on vocals and upright bass.

There is a voluntary cover charge.

Art & Story Walk at Henderson Recreation Centre Chip Trail

Crow Helps a Friend is an original story set in Coast Salish Traditional Territory.

With the story, artist and author Andrea Fritz uses Indigenous storytelling techniques and original art to share the culture and language of the Hul’q’umi’num’-speaking Peoples.

Travel along the Centre Chip Trail to read the tale about Qwiwilh the wood duck and Q’uleeq’e’ the crow.

Listen to a native speaker teach how to pronounce Hul’q’umi’num’ words in the book.

At the end of the walk, pick up your very own colouring sheet!

There is no cost to enter the trail.
