The Town of View Royal has announced they will be receiving $85,000, and will be using the funding to develop an updated Parks and Trails Master Plan.
The goal is to update this plan to reflect how the community has grown. The Town will then use the plan to guide future investments in parks, trails and shoreline access.
Through the plan, View Royal has announced the Town will focus on improving accessibility, protecting natural areas and enhancing recreational opportunities for community members.
“This $85,000 grant will help View Royal develop a Parks and Trails Master Plan that protects the natural spaces our residents cherish while planning thoughtfully for the future,” said Mayor Sid Tobias.
“It’s an investment not just in parks and trails, but in the quality of life that makes our community such a special place to call home.”
This federal funding came from the Strategic Priorities Fund, a program meant to support infrastructure projects that exceed the financial capacity of a local government’s budget.
The funding is being distributed via the Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) Community stream in BC.
“This is what working together on things that matter looks like,” added Tobias.
“Partnerships between local, provincial and federal governments allow us to turn shared priorities into meaningful action.”
In total, $152 million in funding is being provided to 54 community infrastructure and capacity-building projects, of which the View Royal Parks and Trails Master Plan is one.
The BCSF Community stream provides $2.5 billion per year in funding across Canada. BC receives over $326 million annually from this stream.
