Single Victorians who are tired of swiping through the same dating profiles may soon have a much more dramatic way to find love.
Netflix has officially announced that Love Is Blind Canada is on the way, with casting now open to eligible singles across the country.
The reality series challenges participants to form romantic connections without ever seeing each other. Singles date from inside separate pods and can only meet face-to-face after one of them proposes for marriage.
Those relationships are then put to the test in the real world as the newly engaged couples live together, meet each other’s families and decide whether to get married.
In other words, a Victorian could soon be falling in love through a wall while the rest of Canada watches from the couch.
“Love Is Blind has transformed how people fall in love around the world,” Netflix’s Canadian content directors Danielle Woodrow and Tara Woodbury said in a statement.
“Now it’s Canada’s turn to bring the romance, drama, and a whole new set of unforgettable love stories.”
The Canadian edition will be produced by Toronto-based Insight Productions, the company behind shows including Big Brother Canada, The Amazing Race Canada, Top Chef Canada and Canada Shore.
According to the official casting requirements, applicants must be at least 19 years old when they apply and must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents as of January 1st, 2027.
Those selected must also be willing to live on the program’s set, currently anticipated to be in Toronto, for approximately 14 days with between 10 and 40 other singles.
And privacy will be hard to come by.
The set will be equipped with cameras and microphones capable of recording participants 24 hours a day throughout their time on the show.
Applicants may also be required to undergo medical and psychological assessments, along with criminal, civil, financial and driving-history checks.
Participants will receive a weekly stipend for each week they remain on the show, although the amount has not been disclosed.
Anyone hoping to represent Victoria in the pods must complete an online application, submit a video and provide a recent photo.
Applications are currently scheduled to close on November 2nd at 11:59 p.m., although producers say the deadline could change.
Netflix has not yet announced who will host the Canadian edition or when the first season will premiere.
Victorians ready to put down the dating apps and find out whether love truly is blind can apply online here.
