RCMP investigate several break-and-enter incidents along Sooke Road

Sooke RCMP are investigating three break-and-enter incidents reported along Sooke Road within an eight-hour period.

The first occurred around 11 p.m. on Thursday, August 27th, when police were called to a business in the 6600-block of Sooke Road following an attempted break-in.

Nothing was reported stolen, but the suspect damaged the business’s front door.

Approximately three hours later, officers responded to a residence in the 6800-block of Sooke Road. Police said a PlayStation console and a purse were stolen from the home.

A third break-in was reported around 7 a.m. Friday at a residence in the 6700-block of Sooke Road. The suspect is believed to have entered the home and stolen approximately $1,500 worth of belongings before fleeing.

RCMP are reminding residents to lock their doors and windows, particularly before leaving home or going to sleep.

“We have seen unfortunate incidents where these suspects have gained entry into a house simply because the door was unlocked,” sai Sooke RCMP Staff Sgt. Greg Willcocks.

“Thieves will often seek a criminal path of least resistance, and if they locate an unsecured house or business, they will target that one over a locked house.”
