The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is seeking witnesses as it investigates the arrest of a man by Victoria police earlier this summer.
According to VicPD, officers were at a liquor store in a commercial plaza in the 170-block of Wilson Street at around 3 p.m. on June 7th to arrest a man who was reportedly not permitted to be at the location.
Once arrested, the man and transported to the Victoria Police Department.
Nearly a month later, on July 6th, the man contacted the IIO and alleged that he had been injured during the arrest.
The IIO has since launched an investigation and is looking to speak with anyone who witnessed the arrest, including anyone who may have video footage of what happened.
The IIO investigates incidents involving police that result in serious injury or death.
Investigators will examine the available evidence to determine what happened and whether the man’s injury meets the threshold for serious harm under BC’s Police Act.
