Free ‘Mamma Mia!’ outdoor movie night planned for Saanich Fairgrounds

This month, Abba fans and cinephiles have the unique opportunity to see Mamma Mia! shown on a massive outdoor screen at the Saanich Fairgrounds.

The film screening is being put on by the Saanichton Village Association, who want to see folks from all across the Saanich Peninsula and Greater Victoria come out for the movie night.

This free, family-friendly event will be held on Saturday, August 15th, and will offer much more than a movie.

The evening will include live music by Ryton Riggs, performances by the Nisiotes Youth Dance Group, a Mamma Mia! themed costume contest, food vendors and games for the whole family to enjoy.

Plus, the film will be shown on a massive 40-foot screen.

For those who haven’t seen Mamma Mia!, the 2008 film follows independent hotelier Donna (Meryl Streep), who is preparing for her daughter’s (Amanda Seyfried) wedding with the help of two old friends.

Meanwhile, spirited bride-to-be Sophie invites three men (Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård and Colin Firth) from her mother’s past in order to discern which is her biological father.

“Our Outdoor Movie Night has become one of Saanichton’s signature summer events,” said the Saanichton Village Association in a media release.

“Each of the past several years has welcomed more than 1,000 attendees, and we’re excited to once again bring the community together for an unforgettable evening of entertainment under the stars.”

The Saanichton Village Association says there is ample free parking, accessible (handicap) parking and bike parking available at the Saanich Fairgrounds.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, arrive early to enjoy the pre-show entertainment, and take part in all the festivities before the movie begins at dusk.
